Lesson 92 – الدَّرْسُ الثَّانِي وَالتِّسْعُونَ

Patterns of abstract verbs - أَوْزانُ الأفْعالِ المُجَرَّدَةِ

Pattern: FaƐala YafƐilu of the abstract treble verb – وَزْنُ (فَعَلَ - يَفْعِلُ) من الْفِعْلِ الثُّلاثِيِّ الْمُجَرَّدِ

  • In this pattern also, there are sound verbs, weak verbs, and double consonants verbs as follows:

1-    The sound verb الفعل الصحيح  of the pattern (FaƐala YafƐilu – فَعَلَ يَفْعِلُ):

2-    The model verb الفعل المثال of the pattern (FaƐala YafƐilu – فَعَلَ يَفْعِلُ):

  • The model verb is a type of the weak verb in which the weak letter comes in the beginning of the verb.
  • Please, note the present form of that pattern where the weak letter is completely eliminated as follows:

 فَعَلَ

3-    The hollow verb الفعل الأجوف of the pattern (FaƐala YafƐilu – فَعَلَ يَفْعِلُ):

  • The hollow verb الفعل الأجوف is a type of weak verb الفعل المعتل which has the vowel (weak letter) in the middle.
  • We learnt earlier (in the pattern of FaƐala – YafƐulu فعَل - يفْعُلُ) that a morphological change occurs to the present verb of the hollow verb for phonetic reason, as the Arabic language does not accept the voice of (wu) in the present verb. Here also we notice that the Arabic language does not accept the voice of (yi) in the present verb, so it should be pronounced long vowel (ī) instead. E.g. the present form of verb: باع should be pronounced YabīƐu (not yabyiƐu). Consider the following examples:

Past verb

Pattern FaƐala

 فَعَلَ

Present verb

Pattern YafƐilu

 يفْعِلُ

صادَ

بانَ

يَبِينُ

Yabīn (not yabyin)

4-    The deficient verb الفعل الناقص of the pattern (FaƐala YafƐilu – فَعَلَ يَفْعِلُ):

  • The deficient verb is a type of the weak verb in which the vowel (weak letter حرف علة) comes in the end of the root of the verb.
  • In the pattern of (FaƐala YafƐilu), the weak letter should be (ī ي). Consider the following examples:

Past verb

Pattern FaƐala

 فَعَلَ

Pattern YafƐilu

 يفْعِلُ

5-    The double consonant verb الفعل المضعف of the pattern (FaƐala YafƐilu – فَعَلَ يَفْعِلُ):

  • Unlike what we learnt in the pattern of (FaƐala YafƐulu), the double consonant verb الفعل المضعف of the pattern (FaƐala YafƐilu) is always intransitive verb. Consider the following examples:
