The status - الْحَال

Types of the status –أَنْواعُ الحَالِ

  • In this part we will study the types of the Arabic status In-Shā’-Allâh (God willing).
  • The Arabic status can be a single noun, an Arabic verbal sentence, an Arabic nominal sentence, or a quasi sentence (preposition + noun), as in the following example:

كَرِيمًا

The man lived generous

عاشَ الرَّجُلُ كَرِيمًا

/ξāsha ar raĵulu karīman/

فَقِيرًا

My father died poor

ماتَ أبِي فَقِيرًا

/abī māta faqīran/

Verbal sentence

يَسْبَحُ فِي الْبَحْرِ

I saw Muhammad swimming in the sea

رَأيْتُ مُحَمَّدًا يَسْبَحُ فِي الْبَحْرِ

/ra’aytu muħammadan yasbaħu fī al baħri/

يُنادِي أُمَّهُ

The child slept calling his mother

نامَ الطِّفْلُ يُنادِي أُمَّهُ

/nāma aŧ ŧiflu yunādī ummahu/

Nominal sentence

وَقَلْبُهُ حَزِينٌ

The man lived and his heart is unhappy

عاشَ الرَّجُلُ وَقَلْبُهُ حَزِينٌ

/ξāsha ar raĵulu wa qalbuhu ħazīnun/

وَقَلْبُهُ مَرِيضٌ

My father died and his heart was ill

ماتَ أَبِي وَقَلْبُهُ مَرِيضٌ

/māta abī wa qalbuhu marīđun/

Quasi sentence

فِي الْبَيْتِ

I saw Muhammad at home

رَأَيْتُ مُحَمَّدًا فِي الْبَيْتِ

/ra’aytu muħammadan fī al bayti/

عَلَى جَنْبِهِ

The child slept on his side

نَامَ الطِّفْلُ عَلَى جَنْبِهِ

/nāma aŧ ŧiflu ξala ĵanbihi/

فِي قَرْيَتِهِ

The man lived in his village

عاشَ الرَّجُلُ فِي قَرْيَتِهِ

/ξāsha ar raĵulu fī qaryatihi/

بِعِلَّتِهِ

My father died with his illness

مَاتَ أَبِي بِعِلَّتِهِ

/māta abī biξillatihi/
