Types of Prepositions - أَقْسام حُرُوف الْجَرِّ

The original preposition – حَرف الْجر الأَصلِي

  • The Arabic original preposition is that which links the genitive noun which falls after it with a preceding attachment (a verb or a derived noun).
  • This type of preposition has a certain meaning and function in the structure. The meaning is, as we learnt in the previous lesson, supposed to be in accordance with the full meaning of the structure.
  •  The function of the preposition is that it changes the following noun to the genitive case. The preceding attachment can be mentioned, supposed or eliminated (but in the case of elimination it has to be understood from the context). Consider the following examples:
