The conjunctive (wa) – حَرْفُ الْعَـطْـفِ الْـوَاو

• (Wa) is the most commonly used conjunctive. It means that the preceding and the following Arabic nouns share the same meaning related to the first noun. Consider the following examples:

• In the first example the commandant and the soldiers make the same action (going to the battle). In the second example the nose and the ear are both examined by the doctor. In the third example, the student and the teacher share the verb (to be absent).
• When writing in Arabic, please do not make a gap (space) after the (wāw). I.e. the (wāw) has to be attached directly to its following word, while it is supposed to make a space before the (wāw) separating it from the preceding word.
• (Wa) is the only particle which can be used with the verbs which have mutual meaning (i.e. between each other), as in the following examples:
