The Maqŝūr Noun  الاسـْمُ المَقْصُورُ

Introduction - مُقَدِّمَةٌ

  • This is lesson fifty three of our free Arabic language course. This Arabic course with images and audios will help you learn Arabic.
  • In this lesson In-Shā’-Allâh, we will learn the Maqŝūr Noun, which is a noun ending with a long alif /-ā/ (typically preceded by a fatћah) that cannot be omitted, such as مُصْطَفَى /muŝŧafā/, مُسْتَشْفَى /mustashfā/,  هُدَى /hudā/, فَتَى /fatā/, etc.
  • We will also learn the types of the Maqŝūr Noun, depending on the number of its letters (three letters or more); how to form the dual and plural forms of each type of Maqŝūr Noun; and the declension of the Maqŝūr Noun and whether the declension signs appear on its case-ending or not.
