The style of praise and blame - أُسْلُوبُ الْمَدْحِ وَالذَّمِّ
The verbs of praise – أَفْعالُ الْمَدْحِ
- We are still in lesson eighty five of our free Arabic language course. This Arabic course with images and audios will help you learn Arabic.
- There are two Arabic verbs specific to the praise in Arabic as follows:
- (نِعْمَ) what an excellent..!!
- Consider the following examples:
Picture | English | Arabic |
| What an excellent work, to help the poor!! | |
| What a good gain, the legitimate gain | |
| What an excellent man, is that who eats from the outcome of his handwork | |
| What an excellent manager, who helps the employees | |
| What an excellent worker, who perfect his work | |
| What excellent employees are those. | |
| What an excellent school manager, is Adel. | |
| What an excellent government, which respects its people | |
| What a good student is Ibrahim |
- In the above mentioned examples we notice that the verb (نِعْمَ) is a verb of praise. It is always used in the past form, and it is indeclinable on the fatħah (see lesson 39 the structure of the past verb)
- The verb (نِعْمَ) is only used in the past, so that it is of the type of verbs which are called “inert verbsالأفعال الجامدة “ i.e. the verbs which do not have forms for all tenses.
- You may also notice that the verb of praise (نِعْمَ) can be followed by a definite noun in the nominative case as (الْعَمَلُ – الْكَسْبُ – الرَّجُلُ – الْمُدِيرُ - الْعامِلُ), and it can also be followed by an indefinite noun in the accusative case (considered distinctive in this case, see lesson 72) as in the last two examples (طَالِبٌ - حُكُومَةٌ)
- The verb (نِعْمَ) can also be signed with kasrah on its middle letter (نِعمَ), but the first form with sukūn on the medial letter (نِعْمَ) is more used.
- حَبَّذا How lovely!!
- This is the second verb of praise. The structure of this verb consists of three words as follows:
a- The verb (حَبَّ) which means to be lovely or beloved.
b- The demonstrative (ذا) which is a part of the well-known demonstrative noun (هَذا). The demonstrative in this structure is the doer of the verb (حَبَّ).
c- The specified noun which is meant by praise. It can be in the nominative or in the accusative case, as we will study in detail in the following parts of this lesson.
- Consider the following examples:
Picture | English | Arabic |
| How good is the truthfulness!! | |
| How good is to help the poor | |
| How lovely is to see the birds between trees | |
| How lovely is the life in the village!! | |
| How a good work is to make the prayer in its proper time |
