Lesson 92 – الدَّرْسُ الثَّانِي وَالتِّسْعُونَ

Patterns of abstract verbs - أَوْزانُ الأفْعالِ المُجَرَّدَةِ

Pattern: FaƐala YafƐilu of the abstract treble verb – وَزْنُ (فَعَلَ - يَفْعِلُ) من الْفِعْلِ الثُّلاثِيِّ الْمُجَرَّدِ

  • We are still in lesson ninty two of our free Arabic language course. This Arabic course with images and audios will help you learn Arabic.
  • In this Arabic pattern also, there are sound verbs, weak verbs, and double consonants verbs as follows:

3-    The hollow verb الفعل الأجوف of the pattern (FaƐala YafƐilu – فَعَلَ يَفْعِلُ):

  • The hollow verb الفعل الأجوف is a type of weak verb الفعل المعتل which has the vowel (weak letter) in the middle.
  • We learnt earlier (in the pattern of FaƐala – YafƐulu فعَل - يفْعُلُ) that a morphological change occurs to the present verb of the hollow verb for phonetic reason, as the Arabic language does not accept the voice of (wu) in the present verb. Here also we notice that the Arabic language does not accept the voice of (yi) in the present verb, so it should be pronounced long vowel (ī) instead. E.g. the present form of verb: باع should be pronounced YabīƐu (not yabyiƐu). Consider the following examples:

Past verb

Pattern FaƐala

 فَعَلَ

Present verb

Pattern YafƐilu

 يفْعِلُ

4-    The deficient verb الفعل الناقص of the pattern (FaƐala YafƐilu – فَعَلَ يَفْعِلُ):

  • The deficient verb is a type of the weak verb in which the vowel (weak letter حرف علة) comes in the end of the root of the verb.
  • In the pattern of (FaƐala YafƐilu), the weak letter should be (ī ي). Consider the following examples:
