Lesson 76 – الدَّرْسُ السَّادِسُ والسَّبْعونَ

The rest of the prepositions – بَاقِي حُروف الجَرِّ

  • We have already covered till now the meanings of the most commonly used eight prepositions.  In this part we will learn the rest of the prepositions In-Shaa’-Allaah (God willing).
  • You will notice that the following articles are not always used as prepositions, rather they have other functions in other structures. You will also notice that when they are used as prepositions, each o00f them is supposed to have only one meaning. For this reason we learn them all briefly in one part of this lesson.
  • The following table shows the rest of the prepositions and their meanings in common structures:

I walked till the end of the road

مَشَيْتُ حَتَّى نِهايَةَ الطَّرِيقِ

 

 

 

 

Oath

By Allah, I will go to pray in the mosque

واللَّهِ لأَخْرُجَنَّ إِلى الصَّلاةِ في المَسْجِد

وَ

Oath

(this one is only used with the Noun of Allah)

By Allah, you are a courageous man indeed

 

تَاللَّهِ إنَّكَ لَرَجُلٌ شُجاعٌ

تَ

 

 

 

Exclusion

The thieves escaped except one

هَرَبَ اللُّصُوصُ خلا واحِدٍ

خَلا

The soldiers were injured except one

أُصِيبَ الْجُنودُ عَدا جُنْدِيٍّ

عَدَا

The administrators  attended except their boss

حَضَرَ الْمَسْؤُلونَ حاشا كَبِيرِهِم

حاشا

 

 

Beginning of period

I didn’t see you since you escaped

ما رَأيْتُكَ مُنْذُ هُرُوبِكَ

مُنْذُ

I didn’t help him since he came

ما ساعَدْتُهُ مُذْ مَجِيئِهِ

مُذ

 

Rarity, or profusion

There might be a poor whose soul is rich

رُبَّ فَقِيرٍ وهُوَ غَنِيُّ النَّفْسِ
